When the Blowing Rock Town Council approved the idea of annually celebrating the life of a man who gave so much to the Village in honoring the warm spirit and charm of our town, Jerry Burns’ birthday was chosen as the day, June 18.

The format will retain the simplicity of true feelings of caring and sharing the simple joys of life here in Blowing Rock. Jerry was a genius at finding the right sentiment in a small but engaging manner.

The Blowing Rock Historical Society invites Jerry Burns’ admirers and friends to a gathering where we will share stories, reminisce and surely, we will laugh. Join us at Edgewood Cottage on Main Street in Blowing Rock at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18th to celebrate the Holshauser family.

Judy Burns, Jerry’s sister, is putting together a family history that she will present.

Just come as you are with a funny story and an eagerness to join other Burns fans in saluting a man who was truly unique in finding the “best” of any situation.

We will talk about honoring others who have meant so much to this town, as we want to continue Jerry Burns’ Day with a proper acknowledgement that it has taken all sorts of characters, heroes, and champions over the years to form the composite of a “Blowing Rock person”.

What fun it will be to pool our thoughts and see what each of us can bring to the table as we brighten our day with stories of “Mr. Sunshine.” We hope to see you at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18th at the Edgewood Cottage and stay for fellowship and light refreshments.
