Locally sourced food was just about the only food available a century ago. And lots of food lovers are returning to that style of eating.
One way to make sure that your food is produced locally is to purchase it from the Blowing Rock Farmers Market. All of the vendors are from Watauga or surrounding counties.
The first Blowing Rock Farmers Market of the 2014 season took place on May 29. The market is open from 4 to 6 p.m. every Thursday on Park Avenue, next to the Blowing Rock Community Library.
The food and other items available at the outdoor market will change as the growing season moves along. At the first market of the season, visitors looked at, sampled and bought vegetable and flowering plants for the garden, goat cheese, chard, freshly ground sausage, baked goods, jams and jellies and other early season items.
For more information on the Blowing Rock Farmers Market, call the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce at (828) 295-7851.
