At approximately 2:35 on Tuesday, February 26, Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue received a call notifying the department of a fallen tree on US 321 across the highway from the entrance to 3 Rivers Building Supply. Ice accumulation on the tree’s limbs had created enough weight to cause its trunk to break in half. Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and directed traffic through the one open lane and also began to cut the fallen tree into movable pieces with chainsaws. Crews from the NCDOT arrived on the scene shortly afterward and assisted in the removal of the tree. The scene was cleared shortly after 3 p.m. Photos by Jeff Eason
