The Director of Libraries for the Appalachian Regional Library is leaving to accept a position with the State Library of North Carolina. Molly Westmoreland has been hired as the Consultant for Public Library Management and will be a member of the team of staff who make up the Library Development section. Her duties will include serving as a liaison to public library directors and others on management issues, as well as to public library trustees and Friends of the Library. She will also serve as the Director of the Center for the Book.
“I will be sad to leave this area, and this wonderful job,” said Westmoreland, “but am thrilled to have been selected to serve North Carolina this way.” She will continue to serve as Director of Libraries until March 2, when Jennifer Murray, Wilkes County Librarian, will take over as Interim Director. “And I will continue to serve our counties after that through my work at the State level,” she said.
The Appalachian Regional Library serves the people of Ashe, Wilkes and Watauga Counties under the 2012 Interlocal Agreement. The Library is governed by a twelve-member Regional Board made up of four members from each of the three local library boards. Westmoreland described the Regional Library as “truly excellent, something to be proud of, thanks to the Commissioners in our three counties who support public library service for our citizens, and because of our dedicated library boards and hard-working staff. I will miss them all.”
