Although the weather continues to bring some snow and freezing precipitation, no major problems were reported last week around Blowing Rock.
No traffic accidents were reported this past week.
Some concern has been expressed about the condition of the Valley Boulevard near Westview Drive. Ruts in the pavement and some large potholes have made driving hazardous down that stretch of highway.
We received information from DOT that they are planning to repair the pavement this week, weather permitting.
MDTs Blowing Rock Police received 10 new mobile data terminals or MDTs. MDTs are laptop computers that are installed in police vehicles.
The MDTs are used to access DMV files, criminal records, firearm records, sex offender records, wanted person files and a host of other data that law enforcement rely on to help them do their jobs efficiently. The MDTs were funded through a matching grant from the North Carolina Department of Crime Control. The grant also included vehicle mounts, printers, software and all the necessary accessories to put a MDT in all police vehicles.
The new technology should be installed and will be used in the next few weeks.
Incidents An indecent exposure incident was reported to police last week.
A white male approximately 50 years old was reported to have entered a store at Tanger Outlets last week and exposed himself to an employee. Police were not notified until the next day, so no arrest was made.
The incident is currently under investigation.
Three citations were issued last week. Charges include speeding, displaying an expired registration plate and possession of marijuana.
Last week, 113 calls for service and property checks were handled by Blowing Rock Police.
