Snow and ice may have kept some visitors away during WinterFest this past weekend, but few problems were reported on the streets in Blowing Rock.
Only one weather-related accident was reported.
A Toyota truck sustained very minor damage after sliding into a ditch on Ransom Street. That accident occurred on Monday morning during the icy conditions.
Most of the weather-related calls for service were to assist motorists stuck in the snow and ice.
The recent snow and ice should be a reminder for all of us to remember some basic safety rules for traveling in the winter month.
1. Allow yourself extra time when traveling in inclement weather.
2. Keep extra clothes, snacks and water in the vehicle in case you become stranded.
3. If you don’t have four-wheel drive, keep snow chains or cables handy.
4. If you don’t have to travel in snow or ice, don’t.
5. And lastly, slow down. Most weather-related accidents could be avoided if drivers will just reduce their speed.
A two-vehicle collision occurred on Jan. 24. The collision occurred on Valley Boulevard at Sunset Drive.
A 2004 Kia driven by Stephen Rouchfuss of Lenoir turned head on into a 2011 Land Rover driven by Kivi Kay Sherman of Hilton Head. Investigating Officer Matt Royal charged Rouchfuss, 59, with driving left of center and driving while impaired. No injuries were reported though both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
Aluro Jaimes Kraizel, 43, from Charlotte was arrested on Jan. 27. Kraizel was arrested on an order for arrest out of Cabarrus County.
Kraizel was held on a $565 secured bond.
Eleven citations were issued last week. Four citations were issued for driving while license revoked/no operator’s license.
Other charges included speeding, driving left of center, no insurance and failure to wear seat belts.
Forty-two calls for service and property checks were logged last week.
Residential alarms continue to be the No. 1 call for service.
