Some of the sure signs of the holidays are now upon us: cars with Christmas trees on top, Salvation Army bell ringers in front of the stores and holiday cartoons on TV.
In Blowing Rock, one of the things that helps get the town in the Christmas spirit each year is the unveiling of the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce’s annual Christmas tree ornament. The ornament for 2012 was designed by Terri Bailey and features Blowing Rock’s Edgewood Cottage.
The cottage, the former home of American impressionist painter Elliott Daingerfield, is seen on the ornament as it decorated for the holidays with a light coating of snow on the roof and front yard.
The ornament is available for $12 at the Chamber of Commerce offices on Park Avenue in downtown Blowing Rock. Several of the chamber’s annual Christmas tree ornaments from previous years are also for sale.
Last year’s ornament celebrating the golden anniversary of Art in the Park costs $10. 2010’s ornament celebrating the Blue Ridge Parkway’s 75th anniversary is $10, and 2007’s ornament celebrating the town’s Mitford Days celebration is $5.
