A young pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, according to information released Tuesday by Blowing Rock Police Department. A call about the incident came into the BRPD at 3:05 p.m. Sunday.
A BRPD officer arrived on the scene and found a 9-year-old boy who had been struck by a Ford F-150 truck. BRPD did not release the child’s name as of presstime Tuesday.
The child was reported to have minor injuries and was treated on scene by Blowing Rock Fire & Rescue and Watauga Medics. He was later transported to Watauga Medical Center.
The unidentified boy was reportedly crossing the street from Blowing Rock Memorial Park and was headed in the direction of Capel Rugs on Main Street.
The pickup truck’s driver, James Burris, 74, of Raleigh, was cited for careless and reckless driving and failing to reduce speed, according to BRPD.
Officer Lance Dotson investigated the incident.
