The board of trustees at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum kicked off a $350,000 Challenge Campaign this week, with the announcement that an anonymous donor to the museum has put up $100,000 to be matched by additional contributions of at least $250,000 to be secured by the trustees.

The three-year “Securing a Legacy” Campaign is being kicked off with the initial goal of $350,000.

Bill Brown, trustee, is chairing this phase of the campaign, which began in September and will run through Dec. 31.

“While we continue to grow and learn the museum business, our operating funds are of primary importance to our success,” Brown said.  “A generous donor offered a challenge gift of $100,000 if the board of trustees can raise up to $250,000 during the challenge period. That means that every gift will have nearly twice the impact on the campaign. Inspired by the generosity of the challenge donor, the museum leadership is now encouraging others to step forward to help meet this important goal.”

“The museum has had a very positive effect, both culturally and economically, on the town and the region,” Teresa Caine, president of the BRAHM trustees, said. “We all want the campaign to be successful and this gives donors who were not able to participate in the museum fundraising several years ago an opportunity to get in the game.”

The challenge works as follows: Every gift that is given between now and the end of December will be aggregated. When the $250,000 is met, the challenge donor will then provide the additional promised gift. Gifts may be made by cash, securities, donor-advised funds or other means, but must be paid by the end of the calendar year.

For more information about how to contribute to the challenge gift or  about the museum,  call the BRAHM offices at (828) 295-9099.
