Samuel Howard Casey
Samuel "Sam" Howard Casey, 95, of Chapel Hill, died Dec. 22, 2012, at Hillcrest Center in Durham.
He was born in Mt. Vernon, Ill., July 12, 1917. He was the son of Edna Hestwood Casey and Howard Zadok Casey.
Sam attended Milliken College in Decatur, Ill., the University of Illinois, and the Advanced Management School at Harvard University. After a lengthy career in the oil business, he retired as President and CEO of Commonwealth Oil and Refinery in New York and Puerto Rico. In the 1980's, with his wife Lene, he started a new career in real estate and development in Hilton Head Island, S.C. and Ashe County.
Sam is survived by his wife, Lene Alston Casey; four daughters, Sue Olsen, Linda Waddell, Ann Durkin, and Jo Hill; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Imogene McCraw Casey; his brother, John H. Casey; and his granddaughter, Samantha Schrank.
A memorial service will be held at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Littleton at 11 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2013. The family suggests donations be made to St. Albans Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 955, Littleton, NC 27850, or the charity of your choice.
