Mrs. Mary Jo Ragan Hayes, of Blowing Rock, died Sunday, August 5, 2012, at Blowing Rock Hospital. She was born May 11, 1926, in Watauga County to Conrad C. and Josephine Clowson Ragan. She was their only child. She was educated in Watauga schools, where she graduated from Appalachian Teacher College (ASU), teaching 32 years at North Wilkesboro High School and Mulberry Elementary School. She married R.V. Hayes in 1948. Mrs. Hayes was an active member in Delta Kappa Gamma and in the First United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Karen H. Hamby and husband, Roger R.; grandson, Blake Bumgarner; granddaughter, Bry Beth Bumgarner; and great-grandson, Barrett Bumgarner.

Graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Mountlawn Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Keith Franklin and the Rev. Lynn Stall officiating.

The family has requested no flowers, memorials may be to the First United Methodist Church of North Wilkesboro., P.O. Box 1145, North Wilkesboro, N.C. 28659.
