Mary Elizabeth Penn
Mary Elizabeth Penn, 92 of Jefferson, Ga., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, after an extended Illness.
She retired from the Federal Government after serving for almost 30 years as an Office Manager for the 7th Congressional District, of Rome, Ga. She worked at the U.S. Capital, faithfully serving the people of Rome.
She enjoyed reading, walking, traveling abroad, and volunteering for her church, and the community in Blowing Rock. She had a special love for repacking shoe boxes with The Samaritan's Purse Ministries. She was a great philanthropist and believed in giving to those in need.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Penn Sr., and her parents Cephus and Corie Earl.
Survivors include a step-son, John D. Penn, Jr., his wife, Alice; along with step-grandchildren, Patricia Rutledge, husband, Tommy Rutledge, John D. Penn III, Tim Jarnigan and his wife, Dana; two step-great-grandchildren, Jeremy Rutledge and Rayne Jarnigan.
A memorial service was held Sunday March 17, 2013, at First Baptist Jefferson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 1st. Baptist Jefferson Renovation Project, 246 Washington St., Jefferson, GA 30549.
