Charles Keller Oberle

Charles Keller Oberle, 50, of Hickory passed away March 24, 2013, at his residence.
Born June 1, 1962, in San Jose, Calif., he was the son of Ronald J. Oberle and the late Louise Keller Oberle.
Charlie graduated from W.T. Woodson High School in Annandale, Va., and attended Blair Academy in New Jersey where he was a member of the Blair Academy National Championship wrestling team. Charlie continued his wrestling at Appalachian State University, where he graduated with a triple major in sociology, psychology, and criminal justice. While at Appalachian State, he worked taking photos of skiers and became an excellent skier himself. Later he started his own investigating business.
A member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Charlie loved to fish, coaching his son in wrestling, attending horse shows and riding with his daughter, Alison. He also enjoyed camping, traveling, and playing cards with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Smith Oberle; two sons, Nicholas Keller Oberle, Christopher Dalton Oberle; daughter, Alison Elizabeth Oberle, all of Hickory; father, Ronald J. Oberle and fiancée, Kathryn Bradley; brother, John Hampton Oberle and wife, Cynthia, of Annandale, Va.
A funeral mass will be  celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, by the Father Ed Sheridan at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Blowing Rock. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the home of Gene & Phyllis Smith, 1035 15th Ave. NW, Hickory, NC 28601.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to TROSA, 1820 James St., Durham, NC 27707; American Diabetes Association, 2418 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 206, Raleigh, NC 27607.
