Betsy Rankin Sinden McClure died October 28, 2011, in St. Petersburg, FL. She was born July 4, 1924, in Concord, NC, to Juanita Ellen Weedon of Blowing Rock, and Richard Brandon Rankin, MD. She was raised in Concord and spent most summers throughout her life in her beloved Blowing Rock.

She married Richard Hopkins Sinden in 1946. After his death she married James Alexander McClure Jr. who died in 1999. She lived part of the year in St. Petersburg, FL. She was active in the Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Blowing Rock Country Club. She was active golfing, playing bridge, gardening, cooking, and participating in charities.

She was predeceased by her siblings Minnie McCorkle Rankin, and Richard Brandon Rankin Jr. MD. She is survived by her siblings, Ellen Rankin Reamer and Anna Rankin Meacham; her children, Jane Sinden Spiegel, Richard Rankin Sinden, Watson Rankin Sinden, John Rankin Sinden; stepchildren James Alexander McClure III, Margaret McClure Miller, Rhyder McClure; grandchildren, Helen Spiegel, Anna and Emily Beltramo, David, Laura, Nita, Reid, Ali, Richard, Elizabeth, and Will Sinden; and two step-grandchildren, Melissa and Alexandra McClure.
