Winter maintains grip on Blowing Rock

Apparently, Old Man Winter is in no hurry to leave Blowing Rock. Big wet snowflakes fell in a torrent from 6 to 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, leaving a blanket of about three inches of snow everywhere except on the roads. The high temperatures that day remained in the low 30s, reminding everyone that living in the mountains means living with the possibility of snow through the month of April. Watauga County Schools were closed on Tuesday, making it the 17th day of weather-related closures for the 2013-2014 school year, according to officials in the Blowing Rock School office. Three of those days have been made up with school on Saturdays and other holidays. According to officials with Watauga County Schools, the missed day on Tuesday will not be made up on Saturday and spring break will go forward as scheduled.
