Truck fire near Blowing Rock

Jeff Eason

At 3:15 p.m. on Friday, Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a 911 call reporting a truck on fire on U.S. 321 near Falcon Drive, approximately 4 miles south of Blowing Rock. Upon arrival, firefighters found a pickup truck that was fully engulfed in flames with a Wildcat recreation trailer attached to it that was also on fire. The driver of the truck had been heading north on 321 toward Blowing Rock and pulled over to the shoulder when he detected smoke and flames coming from the engine area. Joining the BRF&R in putting out the fire were the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department and the Caldwell County Fire Marshall. North Carolina Highway Patrol interviewed witnesses at the scene. Northbound traffic on U.S. 321 was halted for about a half hour as crews extinguished the blaze. Photo by Jeff Eason
