Traffic rerouted on Valley Boulevard

By Jeff Eason

Considering how curvy most roads are in the High Country, Valley Boulevard from Tanger Shoppes on the Parkway to the Blowing Rock Furniture Gallery is pretty darned straight. Or at least it was. Crews working on the U.S. Hwy. 321 widening project this week rerouted traffic so that they can bury utilities under the existing two-lane road. Motorists driving by Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue Station #1 will now drive on the “new” part of the road, which is several inches higher than the old part of Valley Boulevard. Crews installed paved exits so that motorists can still pull into businesses on the closed side of the road. Officials expect the traffic reroute to be in effect for the next several weeks.
