Town renames water plant
At no time was that more evident than in December when one of their own died suddenly.
Thomas G. “Tom” McRary died after a heart attack on Dec. 11.
He had been an employee of the town of Blowing Rock who worked at the town’s water treatment plant since 1979.
Now the town plans to honor McRary’s by officially renaming the plant the “Thomas G. McRary Water Plant.”
The Blowing Rock Town Council voted on the proposal during its regularly scheduled public meeting on Tuesday.
The proclamation for the renaming reads, “Whereas the property located at 6775 Highway 321 in Blowing Rock is referred to as the town of Blowing Rock Water Plant and is owned and operated by the town of Blowing Rock,
“Whereas, Thomas G. McRary was a dedicated and beloved employee of the town of Blowing Rock and served the town faithfully and dutifully from Oct. 8, 1979, until his untimely passing on Dec. 11, 2013,
“Whereas, Tom was a humble man, with a keen sense of humor, and was a friend to all during his 34 years of loyal service to the town of Blowing Rock,
“Whereas, the town of Blowing Rock Board of Commissioners, fellow employees and citizens of Blowing Rock wish to honor, memorialize and forever remember what a fine man he was and the exemplary service he provided to this community for 34 years.
“Now, therefore, be it resolved, the town of Blowing Rock Board of Commissioners do hereby name the town of Blowing Rock Water Plant in his honor as the Thomas G. McRary Water Plant.”
