Tower site consideration

At December’s regularly scheduled meeting of the Blowing Rock Town Council, several residents of the Green Hill Circle neighborhood spoke out in opposition to that area being one of many considered for the installation of a new public safety telecommunications tower.

Their reasons were many, including the unsightliness of a cell tower, the potential decrease of property values because of its location and its visibility from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Blowing Rock Town Council listened to their concerns and on Jan. 14 voted unanimously to discontinue research regarding the possibility of locating a cell tower on Green Hill.

“Green Hill is a visually prominent part of our area,” wrote Blowing Rock Town Manager Scott Fogleman, in a letter explaining the decision to residents of the neighborhood.

“Consequently, the council has decided that its strong contribution to the beautiful views in the community should not be risked with the addition of a tower,” Fogleman wrote.

“Research into other possible avenues to help improve public safety telecommunications in our service area is expected to continue, however, locating a tower on Green Hill will not be under further consideration.”
