Thomas the Tank Engine returns to Tweetsie

By Jesse Campbell

Tweetsie Railroad has delighted generations of families and young buckaroos with tales of cowboys and Indians and, come Halloween, ghouls and ghosts.

But with its 2014 season under way, a familiar face will soon take to the tracks.

As seen in the popular children’s books and TV series, Thomas the Tank Engine will return to Tweetsie to actually interact with fans young and old. The “Day Out with Thomas: The Thrill of the Ride Tour 2014” pulls into Tweetsie Junction in Blowing Rock on June 6, before departing June 15.

Children of all ages will have the chance to climb aboard and take a ride with Thomas, who will serve as the lead engine for the railroad company’s caravan of cars.

Thomas the Tank Engine will depart every 30 minutes, rain or shine. Departure times begin at 9:30 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. daily.

Admission to the event at Tweetsie Railroad also includes amusement park rides for all ages, live entertainment, including the Tweetsie Palace Saloon Show, Tweetsie’s Miner’s Mountain Magic Show, mascot characters Hopper and Porter’s popular children’s show and more.

Thomas’s return to Tweetsie is made possible through a partnership with HIT Entertainment and sponsored by toy line MEGA Brands.

“The year of 2014 has been an exciting year for Day Out with Thomas,” said Julie Freeland, director of live events for HIT Entertainment. “For the first time ever, Thomas is able to greet his fans in his very own voice at all of the railroads he visits.

“We’ve seen a great reaction from kids and families on the tour when they hear Thomas talk. We’re sure that Thomas fans in North Carolina are going to be just as thrilled to hear Thomas speak when he arrives at Tweetsie this month.”
