Thieves clear shelves at Sunglass Hut
Blowing Rock Police responded to the Sunglass Hut at 10:04 a.m. Nov. 29 after store manager Shannon Taylor arrived to find the door lock damaged and the store shelves empty, according to Capt. Aaron Miller with Blowing Rock Police Department.
An undetermined amount of merchandise was stolen in the break-in.
According to Miller, the incident appears to be part of a series of break-ins at Sunglass Hut stores across the country during the past two weeks.
Taylor told officers that another Sunglass Hut store in Smithfield was broken into the same night as the Blowing Rock store.
During the past two weeks, stores in Texas, Virginia and Maryland have been burglarized in a similar fashion.
Blowing Rock Police have called in the State Bureau of Investigation to assist with processing the crime.
Anyone with information about the crime, or who may have seen anything unusual at Tanger Outlets on the night of Wednesday, Nov. 28, should call the Blowing Rock Police at (828) 295-5212 or High Country Crimestoppers at (828) 268-6959.
The Blowing Rock Police Department also responded in November to two reports of shoplifting which led to arrests.
During another incident, a security camera at Rack Room Shoes recorded a man stealing an employee’s iPhone from an office.
The man on the surveillance video was identified by the public, and the phone was returned. Charges were filed.
