Tacky Vosburgh named honorary chairwoman of hospital fashion show
By Jeff Eason
Most of the women modeling fashions at the annual Blowing Rock Hospital Fashion Show are volunteers; amateur models with little actual runway experience.
And then there’s Tacky Vosburgh.
Vosburgh had a successful professional modeling career in Charlotte as a young woman. At the peak of her career she was one of the models selected to appear in Belk’s annual “Serenade to Autumn” fashion show at Ovens Auditorium.
After she and her husband Ed purchased a home in Blowing Rock, she donated her modeling skills to the Blowing Rock Hospital Benefit Fashion Show. For more than three decades, Vosburgh modeled in the charity event and shared her expertise with the other models and organizers of the event.
It is for her hard work with the annual fashion show that Tacky Vosburgh was named honorary chairwoman of this year’s event, to be held on Friday, August 1 at the Blowing Rock Country Club.
Vosburgh’s selection as honorary chairwoman was announced by event organizer Alice Roess at a luncheon for the fashion show committee held in the home of Suzanne Miller on Fairway 11 court in Blowing Rock.
The August 1 event will include a fashion show, luncheon and silent auction featuring dozens of wonderful items such as costume jewelry, original artwork, and gift baskets from area merchants.
Money raised from the fashion show and luncheon will go toward the construction of the new Chestnut Ridge at Blowing Rock health care facility, an arm of the Appalachian Regional Healthcare System that will replace Blowing Rock Hospital.
Chestnut Ridge will specialize in long-term care, palliative care, rehabilitative services and Alzheimer’s disease treatment and care.
Groundbreaking for the new healthcare facility will take place during a special ceremony on Tuesday, June 24.
