Raleigh folks love the village
Tourists are always stopping us, asking for directions or restaurant recommendations.
Occasionally, our status as a tourist destination is made official by statistics or polls.
That happened last week when readers of Raleigh’s Midtown Magazine voted Blowing Rock No. 1 in the category “Best Place to Go Outside Mid-Town or on a Weekend Get-Away.”
The category was part of Midtown Magazine’s 2013 Diamond Award Winners readers poll.
In naming Blowing Rock the best weekend destination, the magazine said, “Its quaint downtown area and proximity to Grandfather Mountain, Tweetsie Railroad and the Blue Ridge Parkway make this a weekend trip fave.”
“Once again, this validates the hard work that the town and the tourism development authority and the chamber of commerce are doing,” said Tracy Brown, director of the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority. “When I say the town, I mean everybody in town, the people, the businesses and the people who work here.”
“I think it says a lot because it is a readers poll from Raleigh. It’s a lot easier for those folks to get to the coast than it is for them to drive three hours to the mountains, but they clearly love it up here. And we’re glad to have them,” he said.
“We have a brand here in Blowing Rock that is untouchable,” Brown said.
