Parade to roll on Saturday

The town of Blowing Rock will celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with three straight days of events.

The 440th Army Reserve Band will perform jazz, pop and patriotic songs at Blowing Rock Memorial Park from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 5.

A number of events will take place in the park on Saturday, including an adult horseshoe tournament with cash prizes beginning at 9 a.m. and park games with prizes from 9 to 11:30 a.m., including a water balloon toss and watermelon eating contest.

Children’s inflatables, including a bounce house and climbing tower, will operate at the park from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Entertainment on stage will include cloggers from 10 to 11 a.m., The Vagabonds from 11 a.m. to noon, the Buck Haggard Band from noon to 1:30 p.m. and the Cockman Family performing bluegrass and gospel from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

The annual Fourth of July Parade takes place on Main Street beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The fireworks display will be at the Blowing Rock Country Club beginning at 9:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Diana and Sarvis Ridge will perform bluegrass music on the park stage from 1 to 3 p.m., and from 3 to 7 p.m., the town will host a deejay dance in the park with Sweet T.
