New restaurants coming to Blowing Rock
By Jeff Eason
Where do you want to grab a bite to eat?
Diners in Blowing Rock will soon have several more options as four new restaurants prepare to open in the coming weeks.
Mellow Mushroom, long Blowing Rock’s go-to pizzeria, has been closed for the past two months while the business relocates. It was formerly located on Sunset Drive across from the Blowing Rock Ale House and Inn. Its new location will be on Main St., in the building that formerly housed the Bob Timberlake Gallery, across US 221 from the Speckled Trout Café.
The former location of the Mellow Mushroom will soon house, A Taste of Italy, an Italian restaurant that will be open for lunch and dinner. A manager at the location said the restaurant could be open as soon as the end of May.
Rob Dyer and Lisa Stripling, owners of the Best Cellar and Blowing Rock Ale House, are working on their third restaurant collaboration, a restaurant called Roots, located on US 321 in the building that formerly housed Pssghetti’s. The restaurant will specialize in fresh, locally sourced foods with an emphasis on chef-inspired specials.
According to Dyer, the restaurant is set to open by the end of May.
Betty Austin, the proprietor of The Mountain House in Boone, will open a new restaurant on Main Street in the building that formerly housed Knight’s on Main. Workers are currently refurbishing the kitchen and dining room, as well as working on the outside of the building. There is no set date for the opening of the restaurant.
