Officials for the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest, a popular part of the annual Merle Watson Music Festival, announced on April 4 the twelve finalists for this year's contest.
Josh Crews, a guitarist and singer for the Blowing Rock-based band Mountain Radio, is one of three finalists in the bluegrass category of the contest with his song "Crossties."
All twelve finalists will compete on the Chris Austin Stage on Friday, April 25 during the four-day music festival in Wilkesboro, NC. The winners of the bluegrass, gospel/inspirational, country and general categories will then perform their winning songs that evening on the Cabin Stage.
This year, the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest received 567 entries.
Musicians Darrell Scott, Charles Humphreys III (of Steep Canyon Rangers) and Niall Toner will serve as judges during the April 25th competition.
