It’s a date — in the new town calendar

Jeff Eason

What’s free, lasts an entire year and features a photo of Blowing Rock’s favorite clown on it?
Why, the new Blowing Rock 2014 Community Calendar, of course.

Produced by the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority, the calendar is available at the BRTDA office at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, Blowing Rock Town Hall and at the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce.

The new calendar has the theme of “hometown” and includes 12 full color photographs showing off Blowing Rock’s hometown spirit during the 12 months of the year.

The cover of the new calendar features a Marie Weaver photograph of Barbara Ball dressed up as “Bobby the Clown” walking down Main Street during one of Blowing Rock’s past parades.

The months inside the calendar feature photos by a number of talented local photographers, including Lonnie Webster, Beth Brittain, Susan Boles, Amanda Lugenbell, Rachel Moltz, Susan P. Harris, David Rogers and Jeff Eason.

The calendar also has valuable information for both visitors and residents of Blowing Rock, including meeting dates for boards, communities and clubs such as the Blowing Rock Appearance Advisory Commission, board of adjustments, Blowing Rock Community Club, garden club, Rotary club and TDA board.

On the back of the calendar is a list of helpful telephone numbers, including police and fire departments (non 911), Blowing Rock Hospital, Blowing Rock Medical Clinic, Blowing Rock Elementary School, Blowing Rock Post Office, Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce, Blue Ridge Electric, NCDOT, Parks and Recreation, Watauga High School and others.

In its list of phone numbers, one can find directories to local attractions, hotels, motels, inns, bed and breakfasts and rental companies.

The individual months have notices for monthly events, such as the meeting of the Blowing Rock Town Council, national holidays and special events such as Winterfest, the Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival and the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show.

The 2014 Blowing Rock Community Calendar was paid for by the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority.  Photos used in the production of the calendar were donated by Blowing Rock and area professional and amateur photographers.
