Foundation honors students
The Blowing Rock Community Foundation announces seven new scholarship recipients for 2012.
The seven join the 13 current upper class scholarship recipients.
The foundation has been an integral part of the fabric of Blowing Rock for the past 27 years.
Beginning as a dream of Bill Burke, along with Bob Hess and Tony di Santi, the foundation continues to grow each year. During the 27 years, more than $400,000 has been given in grants to various agencies in the Blowing Rock area.
In addition to the grants, more than $339,000 has been awarded in scholarships to students living in the Blowing Rock School district.
Funds for the foundation are raised through individual donations, Community Service Day and Groovy Nights. Currently, the endowment fund is nearing $1.5 million, which will help to ensure a future for both grants and scholarships for the Blowing Rock area, the officials said.
Students receiving new scholarships from the Blowing Rock Community Foundation are Amanda Bryson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tyler Bryson; Katelyn Callahan, daughter of Nicole Barker; Maggie Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Clark; Eric Dehus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dehus; Amanda Fox, daughter of Mechelle Fox; Max Linville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ric Linville; and Kendra Trivette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Trivette.
“The Blowing Rock Community Foundation congratulates these new recipients, as well as the other students who are continuing their education with the help of these scholarships,” the officials said.
