Finck sisters present violin recital May 25

Staff Reports

Many music fans in the area know Ledah and Willa Finck as two of the three fiddlers in the popular local band The Forget-Me-Nots.  Not all of these fans are aware that they are both accomplished classical violinists as well.  The two will present a program featuring great works for violin by Sibelius, Bach, Ysa├┐e, Mozart and others on Sunday May 25th at 4 PM in the Recital Hall of the Broyhill Music Building on the campus of Appalachian State University.  This recital will also feature duets that Ledah recently composed for violin and cello (transcribed for double bass).  The recital is free and open to the public.  A light reception will follow.

Accompaniment is provided by Dr. Allison Gagnon, Director of the Piano Collaboration Program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem and  double-bassist Sam Casseday, currently studying at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia.

Ledah Finck is a rising junior and a Kenan Music Scholar at UNC- Chapel Hill. Last year she won the Durham Symphony Concerto Competition and was a featured soloist with the orchestra. This Fall Willa Finck starts her freshman year of college at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. She recently won the Asheville Symphony Young Artist Competition and is currently a finalist in the North Carolina Concerto Competition.  Ledah and Willa perform on violins made by their father, David Finck.
