Blowing Rock's 2nd Annual Beer Walkabout April 26
Two weekends ago, Blowing Rock celebrated wine with the annual Blue Ridge Wine and Food Festival.
This Saturday, the Village will give a nod to wine’s kissing cousin: beer.
The second annual Blowing Rock Beer Walkabout event is scheduled for 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 and will feature six locations where visitors can meet with brewers, restaurateurs, distributors and other beer experts, and enjoy free samples of their brews.
“The event started last year as an event for North Carolina Beer Month, a statewide initiative,” said Amanda Lugenbell, assistant director of the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority. “This year’s event has moved away from highlighting breweries and is more about the businesses n our town.
“There’s still beer, though. The goals is to show beautiful and walk-able Blowing Rock is, and to get them to see several businesses along the way as those businesses participate together to create a special attraction.”
The beer samples and other giveaways are free, but there will still plenty to purchase, such as food plates and merchandise.
There will also be a “Blowing Rock Haul” gift basket, filled with great stuff from a variety of downtown merchants. Attendees who visit all six sample locations will be eligible to win the prize gift basket.
“The Blowing Rock Beer Walkabout is pretty loosely coordinated, with individual participating businesses creating their own events,” said Lugenbell.
The six tasting stops include Appalachian Mountain Brewery products at the Blowing Rock Inn, live music and a block party behind Footsloggers, a low country shrimp boil at Blowing Rock Market, an open house at Blowing Rock Ale House, brew samples at Six Pence Pub, and a pig picking and beer tasting event at the Town Tavern with live music from Dr. Bacon.
