Blowing Rock dancers needed for 'Happy' video

By Jeff Eason

Every year there is a song that captures the spirit of the times and dominates the airwaves. For better or worse, it is a song that there is just no escaping from.

In recent years, Psy’s “Gangnam Style” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” were the types of songs that seemed to be everywhere at once. But neither of those two tunes was as massive and omnipresent as Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.”

Now Blowing Rock is jumping on the “Happy” bandwagon with the making of a new music video.

Organizers of the annual Groovy Nights charity talent show and the Blowing Rock Community Foundation are asking for submissions for a compilation music video that will be edited in the style of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” video. In that video, people from all walks of life are seen dancing to the beat of the song.

“Film your best ‘Happy’ dance promoting your business or favorite Blowing Rock location to be featured in a special video promoting Blowing Rock to be shown at the Groovy Nights performance in August.

“The video will be presented by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce and the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority.”

According to the guidelines, videos should be approximately one minute long and filmed in landscape (horizontal).

Videos files should be sent to: ( , or put onto a CD/DVD and mailed to: Lee Ryan at P.O. Box 1364, Blowing Rock, NC 28605.

Videos need to be received by July 25, 2014.
