App Ski to open next week

Appalachian Ski Mountain aims to open for the 2013-14 season Nov. 25 or 26, slightly later than its original anticipated opening date of Nov. 22.

The slopes are anticipating round-the-clock snowmaking opportunities due to a cold front expected Saturday afternoon or evening.

“Appalachian Ski Mountain will be making snow on a majority of slopes and should have a substantial base, with excellent conditions and coverage for opening day,” the mountain announced on its website Monday.

Free tickets are available to the first 100 guests on opening day.

Sugar Mountain Resort opened Nov. 13, and Beech Mountain resort has not yet announced an opening date for its ski season.
