Anglers of all ages take part in Trout Derby
Saturday’s Trout Derby, coinciding with the opening of trout season in North Carolina, took place on what was the most beautiful day of the year so far. More than 150 anglers participated in the event at Broyhill Lake, Bass Lake, Trout Lake, Price Park Lake and other area waterways.
Winners in the “biggest trout” contest were Paige Bolick for catching a 17-inch brook trout; Kim Hodges for a 19.5-inch rainbow trout; and Joshua Hodges for a 19.5-inch brown trout.
All three winners received checks for $100.
First place in the small fry division went to Connor Williamson for catching a 14.5-inch rainbow trout.
Paige Bolick also took first place in the girls’ division for her 17-inch brook trout.
Brandon Coffey won first place in the boys’ division for his 19-inch rainbow trout.
Levi Gragg won the “smallest fish” category for his 9.25-inch rainbow trout.
