321 crews reroute traffic pattern

By Jeff Eason

Expect delays. That's the warning from the NCDOT for motorists traveling through Blowing Rock on U.S. 321 this week.
Crews began rerouting traffic on Valley Boulevard in front of Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue Station no. 1 Monday morning. To create the detour, crews have traffic on the two-lane decreased to a single lane. Traffic waiting to continue north toward Boone was backed up from the fire station to the entrance of the Blowing Rock Country Club, at some times, before being allowed to continue.
Motorists visiting restaurants and shops (Papa Joe's Italian Restaurant, Produce and Provisions, Foggy Rock Eatery and Pub, Outback Steakhouse and Woodlands BBQ) along this part of Valley Boulevard are advised to be on the lookout for northbound cars and trucks driving on the left side of the road as they approach the single lane in front of the fire station.
The new traffic pattern will allow crews to install utility lines under the existing part of the road.
For more information, call the NCDOT at (828) 964-3260.
